Two new films have joined France tv distribution’s line-up: the new opus from Andréa Bescond and Éric Métayer, Big Kids (Original title: Quand tu seras grand), and Sébastien Tulard’s debut film, starring Just Riadh, Sugar and Stars (Original title: À la belle étoile). These two movies will be made available for international sales at the European Film Market, to be held remotely from February 10 to 20, 2022.
SUGAR AND STARS
France tv distribution is delighted to handle the international distribution of Sugar and Stars, working alongside production company: De l'Autre Côté du Périph'.
Adapted from the novel "Un rêve d'enfant étoilé" by Yazid Ichemrahen, the film tells the story of Yazid: ever since he was a little boy, he has dreamed of becoming a pastry chef. Moved from one foster home to another, he grew up nurturing a tough, indomitable personality. But if he has any hope of succeeding in the elitist world of confectionery, he’s going to have to put his traumas behind him and change his attitude. His culinary journey takes him from Épernay to Paris and Monaco, working alongside the world’s top chefs as he aspires to the greatest heights in pastry-making and strives to attain his dream of becoming an international pastry champion.
Based on a true story, this film stars Riadh Belaïche as Yazid. An influencer with millions of followers better known as Just Riadh, this young actor is also known for his roles in 30 jours max, Validé and Stalk.
This is Sébastien Tulard’s first feature. He began his career as an artistic director then went on to work as assistant director for Philippe Lacheau, Dany Boon and Franck Gastambide. He has also directed various music videos (Aya Nakamura, MC Solaar) and three shorts that have garnered awards in several festivals.
Julia Schulte (SVP International Sales at France tv distribution) and Renan Artukmaç (Deputy SVP International Sales at France tv distribution):
"We’re very proud to be handling the international distribution for De L’Autre Côté du Périph who produced "Sugar and Stars" ("À la belle étoile"). Based on a true story, this film steers clear of the caricatural portrayal of social and professional success. Besides finding it highly contemporary and spot-on with its treatment of universal topics, we were particularly moved by its realism and sincerity."
Laurence Lascary, Producer at De l'Autre Côté du Périph':
"I knew it would make a fantastic cinematographic narrative. Yazid’s story isn’t about destiny, it’s a message of hope: he persevered despite the many obstacles he faced. I love portraying that on the big screen – I love to see the viewer come away feeling lighthearted and motivated at the same time."
BIG KIDS
France tv distribution is also in charge of international distribution for Big Kids (French title: Quand tu seras grand), the second opus accomplished by Andréa Bescond and Éric Métayer. Their first film, Les Chatouilles ("Little Tickles”) world premiered at Cannes 2018 - Un Certain Regard and won several awards incl. César for Best Adaptation and César for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. It was produced by Les Films du Kiosque.
Summary
Brieuc and his friends’ school cafeteria is being remodeled. To their great dismay, their teacher Aude takes them at the nearby nursing home to spend their lunch breaks. The head caretaker Yannick, played by Vincent Macaigne, is not so happy to see them invade his residents’ territory.
A generation clash seems inevitable. Who will declare war first: the residents or the guests?
But shared interests and a series of comical situations spawn true friendships among the lonely geriatrics and the boisterous school kids. It’s clear that this new arrangement is a growing experience for one and all.
Julia Schulte (SVP International Sales at France tv distribution) and Renan Artukmaç (Deputy SVP international Sales at France tv distribution):
"We were amazed at how subtly and benevolently the writer-directors addressed this topic. Their directing is so refined and the cast so exceptional that we can’t help but be swept into this whirlwind of energy and coming out profoundly moved. We’re confident that this film’s themes – which include "living together" and intergenerational relations – will be well received worldwide."
Denis Pineau-Valencienne and François Kraus, producers with Les Films du Kiosque:
"In the wake of their world-changing first film "Les Chatouilles" (Little Tickles), Andréa and Éric are back with another poignant creation, this time set in a nursing home that gets turned upside down by a group of schoolchildren. A powerful, moving, realistic and yet poetic movie, in their unique style."
